St.Annes-on-the-Sea Urban District Council

Letterhead of the St.Annes-on-the-Sea Urban District Council, 1896. The Victorian equivalent of Local Government in St.Annes was the 'Urban District Council' which had been formed in 1894. Previously it was known as the 'Local Board of Health.'

 

In the 1890s the St.Annes-on-the-Sea Urban District Council had offices in Park Road at the corner with St.Annes Square. This block of shops and offices was known as 'St.Annes Square.'

This block of shops and offices was known as 'St.Annes Square' Most of this block was demolished in the 1960s and it is now the site of Santander Bank.

As the new town expanded, purpose-built offices were commissioned and the site chosen was in Clifton Drive So

Letterhead of the St.Annes-on-the-Sea Urban District Council from 1903. The offices were on Clifton Drive South (a.k.a. South Drive). St.Annes-on-the-Sea U.D.C. existed from 1894 until 1922.

 


St Annes on-the-Sea Urban District Council Offices c1902. This is a Grade II Listed Building. The Public Offices opened on 22 January 1902 and the building was the small-town equivalent of a Town Hall. It housed the council and committee rooms, offices for clerk, rate collector, nuisance inspector, surveyor & medical officer of health.
