The Spanish Flu in Blackpool, 1918-19

...Last year the rates were increased by 6d., and the amount raised had proved quite sufficient to keep the town going.... There was much larger income from the cemetery than estimated, but that was due to the two influenza epidemics which had been general througout the world, and which had carried off more than had been killed in the [1914-18] war.

There had been more deaths from influenza at Blackpool than the number of their local men who had been lost during the war.

The Blackpool Museum Project

"Blackpool Museum was originally going to be in the Horseshoe Theatre in the Winter Gardens. In July 2017 it was decided that the costs to develop the Museum there were too large. However, that was far from the end of the story. Behind the scenes, the team put together a Plan B for the museum."
