Potato harvesting at St.Annes in 1927.  The men employed to do this work were often Irish and on larger farms they were paid by the number of yards dug. Afterwards the potatoes were sorted; the larger ones going to market and the small ones used as seed. By the 1920s many Fylde farms were using machinery to do this work.
