Advert for Samual Riley's Halifax to Blackpool Coach, July 1811. Departing from
the Upper George Inn, Halifax, Mondays at 5.30a.m. and travelling via Todmorden and Burnley;
stopping for the night at Blackburn. It continued the following morning, via Preston, arriving
at Blackpool on Tuesday afternoon. The journey between Blackpool and Preston took five hours
as the roads were so bad. Passengers were allowed 14lbs (6.35 kg) of luggage and had to pay
for any additional weight. This doesn't seem much when you consider that hand-luggage for a
modern airline is 10kg.
